What career & life path led you to working at OneVest?
I was born and raised in the friendliest place in Canada: St. John’s, Newfoundland. After completing my Bachelor's in Commerce at Memorial University, I moved to Calgary, Alberta. Before starting at OneVest, I worked in the Oil & Gas and Staffing industry for 6 years focusing on hiring the best talent for various companies throughout Canada. I’ve always wanted to work with a startup and help build a human resources department from the ground up instead of working with a large corporation. Being able to work at OneVest has allowed me to learn and grow within my field while also working with an amazing product.
What do you do at OneVest?
I’m the People Operations Manager for OneVest. Within this job, I take care of all Human Resources tasks such as Recruitment, Onboarding, Payroll, Benefits Management, Policies and Procedures, and company events. This role differs from my previous roles as I’m more involved with all aspects of HR at OneVest and I’m able to help the founders create a great working environment and culture for our employees - whether it’s in our Calgary office or remotely.
What is your favourite part about working at OneVest?
On a daily basis, I feel challenged, motivated, and inspired by working with some of the best and brightest talent in the industry. The founders have created an environment where everyone is welcomed, valued, and appreciated here. They don’t just strive to be a successful company, they strive to be a good one, too. All ideas and suggestions are heard - whether you’ve been here one day or one year, or are an intern or full-time employee. My favourite perk is bringing my dog, Marvel, into the office with me every day.
What do you do outside of work?
On the weekends you can either find me at a dog park with Marvel, trying a new restaurant in Calgary, watching a Marvel movie or spending time with friends around a fire.
